Sunshine Coast, Australia – A destination where you can truly feel ‘leisure’
Living in Australia and traveling around, I feel that each region has a very different atmosphere and charm.
The Sunshine Coast, where I live, is a place that gives me a feeling of being truly in nature, away from the 'hustle and bustle of the city'. That's why I settled here. Let's take a look at the travel destinations of Australia's Sunshine Coast.
Where is the Sunshine Coast?
The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful region located on the east coast of Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately 100km north of Brisbane, and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. Google Maps
The area stretches for approximately 60km from Caloundra to Noosa Heads. Major cities include Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Coolum and Noosa, each with its own unique charm and atmosphere. Queensland Australia
How's the weather?
What I like most is the weather.
It is mild and warm all year round.
Especially in winter (June to August), the temperature rarely goes below 10 degrees, and during the day, it is around 20 degrees, and it feels a bit chilly only when you go out at dawn. After the sun rises in the morning, the weather continues all day long, similar to the warm spring and fall of Korea. So it is completely different from winter in Korea.
Summer (December to February) is hot, but not as humid as Korea, so it's cool in the shade and bearable because of the sea breeze. The days are long, so the sun stays out until 7pm.
It rains occasionally, but even on rainy days the air itself is clear and refreshing.
Why is it the #1 place to live after retirement?
The Sunshine Coast is one of Australia's top retirement destinations for many reasons:
-
mild climate: The climate is warm and dry all year round, making it ideal for outdoor activities.
-
Beautiful natural environment: With endless beaches, lush forests, and national parks, you can enjoy nature up close.
-
Convenient living infrastructure: largehospital-{Sunshine Coast University Hospital(Sunshine Coast University Hospital, SCUH), shopping centers, restaurants, and other amenities are conveniently located.
-
Various community activities: There is a thriving community of people who enjoy a variety of hobbies, including golf, yoga, and art.
For this reason, the Sunshine Coast has a number of retirement villages and communities, where many retirees are starting their new lives.
Compared to Brisbane?
While Brisbane has a more metropolitan feel, Australia's Sunshine Coast is a place full of nature, the ocean, and tranquility.
It's different from Sydney or Melbourne.
Sydney is really vibrant and cosmopolitan, while Melbourne is a hub for arts and culture.
But the Sunshine Coast is strong in the comfort of leisure, healing, the ocean, forests, and warm weather.
What would it be like if you went there in person?
I will write about what I actually felt while visiting tourist destinations.
1. Noosa
It is the representative tourist attraction of the Sunshine Coast that needs no introduction.
Noosa National Park (a great coastal walk), Noosa Beach (the sea is really clear and warm), and as you can see in the picture, it is a popular spot for surfers because of the consistent, moderately sized waves that roll into the beach for hundreds of meters. And Noosa Hastings Street (lots of cute shops), it is a comfortable, upscale, and very exotic neighborhood.

2. Glass House Mountains
In Brisbane, you have to go a little further to see natural scenery like this, right?
Every single hill here is spectacular, and the trekking course is actually great. The sunrise I saw when I went up early in the morning was truly unforgettable. There are several Glass House Mountain lookout points to see such scenery, and even children and the elderly can easily drive to the viewpoints.

3. Montville
Montville is a mountaintop town that was established in the early 1900s and originally began as a logging and agricultural center. The area’s abundant forest resources allowed early settlers to make a living from the lumber industry, which was followed by agriculture and dairy production.
The name of the town is said to have been given in 1900 by a surveyor who was planning to build a railway, inspired by a Swiss-style mountain village. From the mid-20th century, it developed into an art town and tourist attraction, attracting artists and tourists who were fascinated by the mountainous landscape, climate, and artistic atmosphere.
Today, Montville is known for its vintage shops, galleries, craft stores, romantic inns and cafes, and its exotic atmosphere has earned it the nickname “Europe of the Sunshine Coast”.
There are cafes, art shops, and cheese factories, so if you want to experience the charm of a small town, I highly recommend it.

4. Maleny
Maleny is a peaceful town in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, located about 15 minutes’ drive from Montville along the scenic mountain road, with beautiful green hills and farmland. In the past, it was centered around logging and dairy production, but now it has become a tourist attraction where art, agriculture, and nature come together.
One of the most popular attractions is Maleny Dairies, a popular family attraction, where you can sample fresh milk and cheese and take a farm tour. You can also milk cows, feed calves and play with them, which is a great activity for kids.
There are also many horse farms where you can experience horseback riding, so you can have a special experience with your children.
And a place you absolutely cannot miss is Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. The large botanical garden and the large aviary where various birds fly freely are impressive, and the birds fly freely and land on people's shoulders or heads, and there are many good photo spots, so it is popular with couples and families alike.
Recently, new parks and walking trails have been developed, making the town increasingly loved as a place to enjoy leisurely time in nature.
5. Mooloolaba
Mooloolaba, which is close to my house and my favorite place, is a stylish beach town with a promenade right in front of the ocean and stylish cafes and restaurants. The waves are calm so it's good for swimming, and there are indoor attractions like the SEA LIFE Aquarium, so it's a great travel destination for both families and couples. From June to August, whales that live in Antarctica come up to the warm northeast coast of Australia to give birth to their calves, and from August to November, they return to Antarctica with their calves, and this Sunshine Coast beach is the passageway. Especially during this period, if you climb up the hill where the lighthouse is on Mooloolaba Beach, you can see whales passing by up close all day long. They don't just pass by, they keep passing by.
6. Caloundra
It is a family-friendly beach town with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Kings Beach has a seawater pool for children, and Bulcock Beach and Golden Beach are great for walking and relaxing. The sunsets, when the sky turns red, are also really beautiful.
There are many other beautiful tourist attractions, but I will introduce them one by one.
I've been to many of Australia's major cities,
The Sunshine Coast feels more like a 'healing destination'.
It's less crowded than Brisbane, more relaxed than Sydney, and warmer and more laid-back than Melbourne.
In a word, ‘the harmony of leisurely daily life and travel in nature’, this is why I love the Sunshine Coast.
