Short version: if you pay for the Disney+, Hulu Bundle, canceling Hulu and keeping Disney+ saves you exactly $1 a month ($12.99 bundle vs. $11.99 Disney+ alone). If you’re on the no-ads bundle it’s also $1 ($19.99 vs. $18.99). That’s the number nobody tells you before you start clicking. Below is how to do it anyway, the cases where it actually makes sense, and the one move that saves real money instead.

Cancel Hulu, keep Disney+: the $1 math first

Disney publishes both prices, so this is easy to check (prices are U.S., billed by Disney+, as of September 2026):

Plan Monthly What you get
Disney+ (with ads) $11.99 Disney+ only
Disney+, Hulu Bundle (with ads) $12.99 Disney+ + Hulu
Disney+ Premium (no ads) $18.99 Disney+ only
Disney+, Hulu Bundle Premium (no ads) $19.99 Disney+ + Hulu, both ad-free

So “cancel Hulu but keep Disney Plus” is really a question of whether you want to drop from $12.99 to $11.99. For most people the answer is no — but there are three situations where it’s the right call:

  • You’re on a bundle that includes ESPN ($21.99–$44.99). Dropping to Disney+ alone saves $10–$33 a month. That’s worth it.
  • You pay for Hulu twice. This happens more than you’d think — an old standalone Hulu subscription kept billing after you bought the bundle. Fixing that saves the full Hulu price.
  • You want Hulu gone for household reasons (kids, shared profiles) and don’t care about the dollar.

Step 1: Find out who’s billing you

This decides everything. Disney sells the bundle through four different checkouts and each one cancels differently.

  1. Open disneyplus.com/account in a browser (not the TV app).
  2. Under Subscription, look at the plan name and the line that says how you’re billed.
  3. Then check hulu.com/account → Payment Information. If Hulu shows its own card on file, you have a separate Hulu subscription.

You’ll land in one of these four cases:

Where it says you’re billed What you have Go to
Disney+ Bundle bought on Disney+ Step 2
Hulu Bundle bought on Hulu Step 3
Both show a charge Bundle plus an old standalone Hulu Step 4
Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, Verizon, T-Mobile, Spotify, Xfinity Third-party billing Step 5

Step 2: Bundle billed by Disney+ — switch plans, don’t cancel

You do not cancel here. Canceling the bundle on Disney+ ends Disney+ too. What you want is a plan change:

  1. Log in at disneyplus.com on a computer or phone browser.
  2. Click your profile icon → Account.
  3. Under Subscription, select your Disney+, Hulu Bundle.
  4. Choose Change plan (Disney labels it “Switch plan” on some accounts).
  5. Pick Disney+ (with ads) at $11.99 or Disney+ Premium at $18.99.
  6. Confirm. The change takes effect at your next billing date; Hulu keeps working until then.

If Disney+ alone doesn’t appear as an option in the switch menu, that’s usually because the bundle was originally purchased on Hulu (go to Step 3) or through a third party (Step 5).

Step 3: Bundle billed by Hulu — cancel on Hulu, then check Disney+

When Hulu is the biller, Hulu’s cancel flow is the only way out, and Disney’s own help page says exactly that. The catch: canceling the Hulu-billed bundle ends the bundle, so you need to re-subscribe to Disney+ directly.

  1. Go to hulu.com/account.
  2. Under Your Subscription, click Cancel.
  3. Hulu will offer to pause instead. Click Continue to Cancel.
  4. Click Cancel Subscription. The status should now read “Your subscription will be canceled” and you’ll get a confirmation email — keep it.
  5. On the date the bundle ends, go to disneyplus.com and subscribe to Disney+ alone with the same login. Your watchlist and profiles stay on the account.

Do it in that order. If you subscribe to Disney+ directly before the bundle ends, you’ll pay for both for the overlap.

Step 4: You’re paying for Hulu twice

This is the case where canceling actually saves money. It happens when someone had standalone Hulu, later bought the Disney+ bundle, and the old Hulu charge never stopped. Disney’s help center confirms canceling the original Hulu subscription does not affect your bundle — the bundle keeps running with full access to Disney+ and Hulu.

  1. On hulu.com/account, confirm the plan listed is a standalone Hulu plan (not “Disney+, Hulu Bundle”).
  2. Click Cancel → Continue to Cancel → Cancel Subscription.
  3. Check your bundle on disneyplus.com the next day — it should be unchanged.

Then go through your card statement for the last 12 months. If you were double-billed, ask Hulu support for a refund of the overlapping months; they’ll usually credit at least the most recent one.

Step 5: Billed through Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, Verizon, T-Mobile, Spotify or Xfinity

Neither Disney+ nor Hulu can touch a subscription that a third party bills. You cancel with the biller, then re-subscribe to Disney+ directly:

  • Apple (iPhone/iPad/Apple TV): Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Disney+ or Hulu → Cancel Subscription.
  • Google Play: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Cancel.
  • Roku: my.roku.com → Manage your subscriptions → Cancel.
  • Amazon: amazon.com → Your Memberships & Subscriptions → Cancel.
  • Verizon / T-Mobile / Xfinity: remove the perk or add-on in your carrier account — see our guide on canceling streaming billed through T-Mobile for the same flow.
  • Spotify: the Hulu perk is tied to Spotify Premium Student — details in how to cancel Hulu billed through Spotify.

Once the third-party plan ends, sign up for Disney+ at disneyplus.com with the same email so your account history carries over.

The move that actually saves money

If the goal is a lower bill rather than “no Hulu,” you have better options than the $1 cut:

  • Pause instead of cancel. Disney+ (billed by Disney+) lets you pause a monthly plan; Hulu lets you pause for up to 12 weeks. You pay nothing while paused and keep your profiles. Note that pausing a bundle pauses both services.
  • Drop from Premium to the ad-supported bundle. $19.99 → $12.99 saves $7 a month, which is seven times more than dropping Hulu.
  • Go annual on Disney+ Premium. Disney+ Premium has an annual option that works out cheaper than 12 monthly payments; check the current annual price on the account page before you switch.
  • Rotate. Cancel the whole bundle for a month or two when there’s nothing you’re watching, then restart. Disney lets you restart with one click before the term ends and re-subscribe any time after.

What happens after you cancel Hulu

  • Hulu keeps working until the end of the current billing period — you’re not cut off the day you cancel.
  • Your Hulu account and watch history are not deleted. If you come back, sign in with the same email.
  • Your Disney+ account, profiles and watchlist are untouched, as long as you switched plans (Step 2) or re-subscribed (Steps 3 and 5) rather than letting Disney+ lapse.
  • Hulu content that was showing inside the Disney+ app disappears from Disney+ once the bundle ends.

FAQ

Can I remove Hulu from the Disney bundle without losing Disney+?

Yes, if Disney+ bills you: switch to a Disney+-only plan from the Account page. If Hulu bills you, cancel on Hulu and re-subscribe to Disney+ directly when the bundle ends.

How much do I save by canceling Hulu and keeping Disney+?

$1 a month on either bundle tier ($12.99 → $11.99 with ads, $19.99 → $18.99 without). Savings are real only if you’re on an ESPN bundle or paying for Hulu twice.

Will canceling Hulu cancel my Disney+?

Not if you cancel a standalone Hulu subscription. It will if you cancel a Hulu-billed bundle — which is why you re-subscribe to Disney+ separately afterward.

Can I cancel Hulu from the Disney+ app on my TV?

No. Plan changes and cancellations only work in a web browser on disneyplus.com or hulu.com. TV and mobile apps send you to the website.

I canceled Hulu but I’m still being charged.

You almost certainly have a second Hulu subscription through a different biller. Check hulu.com/account → Payment Information, then your Apple, Google, Roku and Amazon subscription pages. Hulu has a dedicated help article titled “I thought I canceled but I’m still seeing charges” for exactly this.

Is there a Disney+ plan without Hulu at all?

Yes — Disney+ (with ads) at $11.99 and Disney+ Premium (no ads) at $18.99 are the standalone plans as of September 2026.

Prices are U.S. list prices billed by Disney+ or Hulu, checked September 2026 against the official Disney+ and Hulu help centers. Third-party billers can charge different amounts.
